Flexer Tendon Repair and Rehabilitation

Martin I. Boyer, M.D.

DEPARTMENT OF Orthopaedic Surgery
Keywords: allograft, microsurgery, tendon, tendon repair

Dr. Boyer’s research interests are in the fields of flexor tendon repair and rehabilitation and in the microvascular transplantation of epiphyseal plate allografts. Improved techniques of repair of both lacerated flexor tendons and flexor tendon avulsions from bone have been developed and have been combined with modern methods of post-operative rehabilitation in order to maximize tendon strength and function. These studies are being combined with detailed molecular biological characterization of the repair site (tendon-tendon and tendon-bone) tissue in order to identify the cadence of anabolic activity present at the repair site during early tendon healing.
