Construction and Improvement of Tools Used in Three-Dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy

John W. Matthews, D.Sc.

DEPARTMENT OF Radiation Oncology
Keywords: radiation dose reduction, radiation therapy, radiology

Dr. Matthews’ research focuses on making three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy a practical clinical reality. He frequently deals with generating real-time displays of patient anatomy and computed dose distributions. He also is interested in increasing dose computation speed by using parallel processing with the ultimate goal of doing real-time dose planning. An area of current interest is the construction and improvement of tools to be used for quality assurance of 3D radiation therapy plans. He is a member of the 3D Quality Assurance Center at Washington University. The 3D Quality Assurance Center is involved in quality assurance for national clinical trials for 3D radiation therapy.
