DEPARTMENT OF Internal Medicine
Keywords: clinical research, lipid metabolism, stable isotopes

My research activities involve the use of stable isotope tracers and mass spectrometry methods to evaluate substrate metabolism in vivo in humans. My laboratory has been interested in several areas of lipid metabolism: 1) the factors that regulate the mobilization of adipose tissue triglyceride during physiological conditions that require body fat as a fuel, such as starvation and endurance exercise; 2) the effect of aging on substrate mobilization and oxidation; 3) the alterations in lipid metabolism associated with obesity; and 4) the effect of exercise training on whole body and cellular lipid metabolism.
